OUR ANCESTORS is an
historical and genealogical account of all the families
that have settled at Bay de Verde since earliest times.
It begins with the Taverners who were here from the
1630’s to the early 1700’s. Documentation of some of
the other families begins in 1766. The book is an
account of 64 families as well as commentary on more
than a dozen others. Based on the Plantation Book
records as well as the Church baptismal and marriage
records the families are placed in a rough chronological
order of arrival. Each family account begins with the
earliest recorded ancestor, his wife and their children.
The account describes several generations and usually
ends with the generation of the early part of the
1900’s.
The book was
researched and written by Brendan Doyle and the proceeds
from the sale have been donated to the Bay de Verde
Heritage Committee.
Copies of 'OUR
ANCESTORS' are available locally at the Heritage House,
at the Town Office and at Gasland in Old Perlican. The cost
is $25.00. Copies may be ordered by mail by sending a
cheque or money order to the address above. Canadian orders please
add $5.00 postage and US orders please add $10.00
